Day 48

Now these things were our examples to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they lusted. Neither be idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to revel.” Neither let us commit sexual immorality as some of them committed, when twenty-three thousand fell in one day. Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted and were destroyed by serpents. Neither murmur, as some of them also murmured and were destroyed by the destroyer. 1 Corinthians 10:6-10 MEV

  • Lusting after evil things.
  • Idolaters.
  • Sexual immorality.
  • Tempting Christ.
  • Murmering.

Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed, lest he fall. 1 Corinthians 10:12 MEV

Guard thyself, indeed, oh man who walks with God!

No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, and He will not permit you to be tempted above what you can endure, but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it. 1 Corinthians 10:13 MEV

He has got this. As I often say, even this will pass.

You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons. 1 Corinthians 10:21 MEV

This principle is the main reason that I do not participate in the Roman Catholic sacrifice/mass and partake of what they call communion.

“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things edify. Let no one seek his own, but each one the other’s well-being.1 Corinthians 10:23-24 MEV

It is brilliant how the Holy Spirit led Paul to tie these two principles together, and what they mean to us is profound.

Eat whatever is sold in the meat market, asking no question for the sake of conscience, 1 Corinthians 10:25 MEV

Yes Amen. Have lots of barbecues for the sake of conscience :)

Conscience, I say, not your own, but that of the other. For why is my liberty judged by another man’s conscience? 1 Corinthians 10:29 MEV

Sad but true.

Give no offense, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God, just as I try to please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved. 1 Corinthians 10:32-33 MEV

The essence of what is stated here, if wrongly understood, will cause errors. The key idea is to not seek our own profit, to live selflessly, to live sacrificially in service of others, that they may be saved. To seek and save the lost.

For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, because he is the image and glory of God. But the woman is the glory of the man. 1 Corinthians 11:7 MEV

If this is clearly understood, there would be equality, and the end of male chauvenism and femisim.

For this reason the woman ought to have a veil of authority over her head, because of the angels. 1 Corinthians 11:10 MEV

Angels are not cultural.

Let a man examine himself, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 1 Corinthians 11:28 MEV

This involves more than contemplative meditation on condemnation and covers the whole gamut of being right with God.

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant. Do all have the gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? 1 Corinthians 12:1, 30 MEV

The tongues being addressed here is a gift, not the Heavenly language. We speak to God our Heavenly Father in tongues, but there is also the gift that overcomes different languages. Everyone who is filled with the Holy Spirit speaks in a Heavenly language to God, our Heavenly Father, but not everyone has a gift where their utterance is understood in other languages. The Holy Spirit gives us utterance.
