The spirit of your mind

  • I thought when we accept Jesus we move out of generational curses into Abrahamic blessings.
  • I come from a very blessed family and I have seen God’s favour on us throughout.

Hosea 4:6 NKJV My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.

Philippians 1:6 NKJV being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;

Sources of Curses

When you accept Jesus, potentially all the curses are gone.

  • There is however a biblical process known as sanctification.
  • Just because you own a soap factory does not mean that you are clean.
  • I do not imply that you are cursed, but you need to check

Matthew 7:20 NKJV Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

Deuteronomy 28

  • 14 blessings
  • 54 curses
  1. Exaltation – Humiliation
  2. Reproductiveness – Barrenness
  3. Health – Sickness of all kinds
  4. Prosperity- Poverty or failure
  5. Victory – Defeat
  6. Authority (Head) – Helplessness (tail)
  7. Above (Strength) – Beneath (weakness)

Ephesians 4:20-24 NKJV But you have not so learned Christ, [21] if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: [22] that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, [23] and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, [24] and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.

Three things

  1. Put off, concerning your former conduct.
  2. Be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
  3. Put on the new man

The spirit of the mind is the inner power that governs and directs the mind.

  • It is this human spirit that must be renewed, not just the mind itself.
  • No man can tame the tongue, but the Holy Spirit can change our hearts, which guides our mouth

The “spirit of the mind” transformation is not simply a repair of minds, but it is a Spirit-empowered supernatural recreation of what the fall and sin has corrupted and distorted.

This transformation allows the new self to see God in all life.

It is possible to appear spiritually renewed without actually being so.

  • Some adopt Christian language and actions without a renewed spirit.

It is a new orientation towards the same world that both Christians and non-Christians live in.

The Holy Spirit transforms people from the inside to the outside.

  • This new self lives in accordance with godliness having been renewed by the power of the gospel.

Romans 15:4 For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.

John 8:32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

John 1:5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

Some things were fulfilled by Jesus – curse of the law.

  • Because of Jesus, we can stand free, walk in blessings but in His way.

Somethings are still relevant to us in the NT

  • God’s power is in us to dispel darkness.
  • Tithes OT principle, before the law of Moses,
  • 1/10 vs giving.
  • Doesn’t change generosity towards God.

1 Corinthians 9:14 Even so the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should live from the gospel.

1 Timothy 5:17–18 17 Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine. 18 For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain,” and, “The laborer is worthy of his wages.”

Malachi 3:8–10 8 “Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. 9 You are cursed with a curse, For you have robbed Me, Even this whole nation. 10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there willnot be room enough to receive it.

Stinginess toward God

Deuteronomy 8:18 “And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

Galatians 6:6-7 NKJV Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with him who teaches. [7] Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.

Philippians 4:18-19 NKJV Indeed I have all and abound. I am full, having received from Epaphroditus the things sent from you, a sweet-smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well pleasing to God. [19] And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

False Gods

Exodus 20:3–5 3 “You shall have no other gods before Me. 4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,

Idolatry (occult)

Deuteronomy 27:15 ‘Cursed is the one who makes a carved or molded image, an abomination to the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and sets it up in secret.’ “And all the people shall answer and say, ‘Amen!’

Revelation vs pursuit of knowledge

Deuteronomy 29:29 29 “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.

Daniel 12:4 4 “But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”

Disrespect parents

Proverbs 30:17 17 The eye that mocks his father, And scorns obedience to his mother, The ravens of the valley will pick it out, And the young eagles will eat it.

Ephesians 6:2–3 2 “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: 3 “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”

Treachery … neighbor

Proverbs 17:13 13 Whoever rewards evil for good, Evil will not depart from his house.

Proverbs 3:29 Do not devise evil against your neighbor, For he dwells by you for safety’s sake.

Romans 13:10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

Injustice to weak, poor

Proverbs 28:27 27 He who gives to the poor will not lack, But he who hides his eyes will have many curses.

James 2:2-3 For if there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in fine apparel, and there should also come in a poor man in filthy clothes, [3] and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him, “You sit here in a good place,” and say to the poor man, “You stand there,” or, “Sit here at my footstool,”

Unnatural sex/incest

Antisemistism

Depending on flesh

Jeremiah 17:5–7 5 Thus says the LORD: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the LORD. 6 For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, And shall not see when good comes, But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, In a salt land which is not inhabited. 7 “Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And whose hope is the LORD.

Philippians 3:4 NKJV

though I also might have confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he may have confidence in the flesh, I more so:

Galatians 3:3 NKJV Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?

Galatians 5:16 NKJV I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

Stealing/perjury

Zechariah 5:1–4 1 Then I turned and raised my eyes, and saw there a flying scroll. 2 And he said to me, “What do you see?” So I answered, “I see a flying scroll. Its length is twenty cubits and its width ten cubits.” 3 Then he said to me, “This is the curse that goes out over the face of the whole earth: ‘Every thief shall be expelled,’ according to this side of the scroll; and, ‘Every perjurer shall be expelled,’ according to that side of it.” 4 “I will send out the curse,” says the LORD of hosts; “It shall enter the house of the thief And the house of the one who swears falsely by My name. It shall remain in the midst of his house And consume it, with its timber and stones.”
