Exodus 4

Exodus 4:14,24-25 NKJV

So the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses, and He said: “Is not Aaron the Levite your brother? I know that he can speak well. And look, he is also coming out to meet you. When he sees you, he will be glad in his heart. [24] And it came to pass on the way, at the encampment, that the LORD met him and sought to kill him. [25] Then Zipporah took a sharp stone and cut off the foreskin of her son and cast it at Moses’ feet, and said, “Surely you are a husband of blood to me!”

When the Lord commissioned Moses, he let his inadequacy and insecurity get in the way of his calling. His lack of confidence and lack of faith got God angry, but they did not warrant a death sentence.

God was going to kill him because of a lack of covenant, not confidence. Zipporah, understanding this, did the needful, albeit reluctantly from what I’ve understood.

Our covenant is with Jesus Christ who has reconciled us to God, our Heavenly Father (2 Corinthians 5:18), and as the Apostle Paul declares in Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;”

The work of Jesus Christ on the cross, the grace of God, assures me that we are no longer in the hands of an angry God when we enter into the New Covenant with Him.
