High Places

  • Importance of being filled with the Holy Spirit.
  • What are high places?

Psalm 78:56–58 56 Yet they tested and provoked the Most High God, And did not keep His testimonies, 57 But turned back and acted unfaithfully like their fathers; They were turned aside like a deceitful bow. 58 For they provoked Him to anger with their high places, And moved Him to jealousy with their carved images.

  • Joke about high places in Kerala vs Tamil Nadu
  • Higher the better, closer to heaven
  • Substitute for a relationship with God.
    • Appeal, request
  • Substitute for a presence of God.
    • Smoke machine vs anointing.
    • Deceitful bow. Turned aside!

  • Peace – no longer angry.
  • Immanuel

Matthew 1:23 23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”

There is a difference between God with us and God through us.

Acts 2:22 NKJV “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know-

  • What runs over your cup is for others, for ministry, God through you.
  • Abiding presence vs Empowering presence

1 John 2:27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

This is the abiding anointing.

Acts 1:8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

This is the empowering anointing

  • The abiding anointing works in us;
    • the empowering anointing works through us.
  • The abiding anointing is for walking;
    • the empowering anointing is for working.
  • The abiding anointing is for revelation and manifestation;
    • the empowering anointing is for demonstration.
  • With the abiding anointing the Lord manifests Himself in my spirit.
    • He doesn’t manifest within me so others will know Him;
    • He manifests Himself within me that I might know Him.
  • The empowering anointing is for demonstration that others might know Him.

This speaks of differences between God’s presence in our life and God’s power to minister to others.

  • These are separately applicable and available.
  • God’s presence in our life should never be misinterpreted as God’s power to minister to others
  • I have learned that this leads to grievous errors.

Dear God,

I repent of my sins and for my ways apart from You.

I put my trust in Jesus Christ as Lord; the master over my life, my Saviour.

Forgive my sins and grant me your gift of everlasting life.

Thank you for being my Father in Heaven

Fill me with your Holy Spirit, give me the ability to overcome and preach the Gospel.

In Jesus’ name I pray.

There is a change in what we know as the anointing. The anointing basically in the Old Testament was when you take an oil and you smear that over someone and that person is anointed with that oil. So that represents the presence of God in our life.
The word anointing and there has been a change and I say that your prayers or the prayer that which are changed from religiosity into a relationship is answered and I see a difference that will make in our lives and I’m seeing that because I planned in one way I could say that to teach something else to continue but the Lord said step back and teach about this and I had spoken about this many many years ago maybe even a decade ago and I taught you all the difference in all these scriptures in depth but the Lord said go through them again. For the last six months or so or two throughout 2023 I’ve been teaching you about the importance of being filled with the Holy Spirit.
We have the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Three in one in the human terms one plus one plus three in one. One plus one plus one is three but God is one.
How do you understand that? How do you wrap your head around that? Well you can’t because your head is in the natural. You can only understand that in the spiritual.
You can make all kind of examples but what you need to understand is that we were separated from our Father in what we were in what is known as the original sin and Jesus Christ. Christ means the one sinned by the Father reconciled as to God the Father in heaven and then for us to walk worthy to walk according to his calling.

He has given us the Holy Spirit so that is what I mean by being filled with the Holy Spirit without being filled with the Holy Spirit you cannot walk with him and I’ve been teaching about this but there are many traditions that need to be broken.

There are many things in our lives that as the Lord reveals we need to now take into consideration the truth of the word of God and change ourself accordingly.

So if you have any questions or any doubts about this ask me and I will show you where the scriptures are.
So in this preaching and in this it’s not a teaching I may not cover all the scriptures so you ask if you are in doubt but when you go to Psalm 78.

It talks about high places.
That’s important because high places anger God.
God is not pleased with the high places. What are they? When you read 56 to 58 verses Psalm 78. Yet they tested and provoked the most high God and did not keep his testimonies but turned back and acted unfaithfully like their fathers.
They were turned aside like a deceitful bow for they provoked him to anger with their high places and moved him to jealousy with their carved images.

They provoked him to anger with their high places.
So what does that mean to us to you and me?
Some years back while I was ministering in Tamil Nadu a person made a joke about high places.

He said all the high places in Kerala are filled with churches.
All the high places in Tamil Nadu are filled with temples. But that made me think and when I was preparing this talk it became relevant because when you are in the world and you think God is sitting up above in some clouds or some place in the stratosphere or beyond.

Then you think the higher the better because you get closer to heaven.

When you don’t have a relationship with God because you are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Yes.

Then God becomes someone who is sitting above and you are looking up and the closer you get the better it is.

And what is better than a high place to get closer.
But we find that God hates that because he doesn’t dwell there.

We’re not going to go into that. But what I want you to understand as this is a substitute for a relationship with God which God hates.

We send emails to God.
We call them prayers.
We call them petitions.
We say oh God can’t you see this and click send and then you walk and do all kind of nonsense.

And you expect God to check his email every day and do something about it.
We send our appeals our request to God.

There was a movie called Bruce Almighty where God is represented like that.
I’m not telling you to watch that movie.

But we are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Are we not.

So what’s the point in sending an email to someone else.

We need to understand that there is no substitute for the presence of God in us and through us.

And the world because it lacks the presence of God even Christians who lack the presence of God make a substitute.

That is why I speak so much against smoke machines.

When I have nothing against them but don’t let smoke machines for example be a substitute for the anointing.

Because what it what does it do. Mystify the air and fill it with smoke.

When I was in Quadek canal ministering there in that hall.
I believe it’s called Abraham Hall. Suddenly the whole hall was filled with smoke. We didn’t have a single smoke machine.

You can say that this is a natural event or something but I checked.

It has probably happened once before and that too when somebody was ministering.

So you can write it off as coincidence. You can say oh the small from outside came in or what the fall from outside came in.

But we took a picture of this and this is not a fog.

That is why don’t try to recreate that with a smoke machine.
There is no substitute for his presence for is anointing.

And in the song we speak up and we read about the deceitful bow.

In the Bible study I spoke about the bow.
How Joseph had a bow. The rider in the white horse has a bow.

Joseph is good. The rider is bad. But here it speaks about deceitful bow and how they turned aside.

But deceitful bow.
So there’s something that symbolizes faith but it’s nothing but clanging symbol.

Don’t you want to get out of this religiosity.
I don’t know about you but I want to. And there is good news.

God is no longer angry with us.
There is total peace. Otherwise how can he be Emmanuel.

How can you be the temple of the Holy Spirit.

Go to Matthew 1 23 says Behold the virgin shall be with child and bear a son and they shall call his name Emmanuel which is translated God with us.

We understand that or we think we understand.
But here I’m going to talk about something which you need to clearly understand that.

There is a difference between God with us and God through us.

Like I said I spoken about this before.

But unless you understand that you always make a mistake of the anointing quote unquote.

What is God through us and what is God with us. Go to Acts 2 22.

Man of Israel hear these words. Jesus of Nazareth a man attested by God to you by miracles wonders and signs which God did through him in your midst as you yourself also know.

That is God through us through Jesus.
God the father did the miracles through Jesus who was empowering Jesus the Holy Spirit. Do you understand. Yes. But he is God with us.
You need to know the difference.

I had spoken earlier about D T E. Remember D T E I made those initials up demonstrations teaching empowerment or encouragement and I is impartation.

How did Jesus demonstrate.

God through him.

And Jesus said you will do greater things. Why because we in the new covenant have got with us.

In us we are the temple.

Of the Holy Spirit.
So through Jesus Christ God did.
He demonstrated in Jesus Christ that is in you and me we are in Jesus Christ. We are clothed with Christ.
We are born again. There is a difference.
And if you don’t understand the difference you will fall into a pit and you’ll wonder what happened.

Romans 15 for says for whatever things were written before were written for our learning that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. That means what everything in the Old Testament this was written before the New Testament took to shape everything in the Old Testament was written for our learning. Yes. So we’re going to look at the Old Testament and especially the life of Moses to understand this differentiation of God in us and God through us.

First got in Moses.
Let’s go to Exodus 2 9.

Then Pharaoh’s then Pharaoh’s daughter said to her take this child away and nurse him for me and I will give you your wages. So the woman took the child and nursed him. Who is the woman.

She’s none other than Moses’s mother.
What did she do.
She tried to hide Moses and float him in the river Nile.
Why because there was an order from the Pharaoh saying kill all Hebrew male children. Why because they were growing in number.

Do you understand. But God was in with him in Moses. You can say God was with Moses but God was in Moses and there was a difference because of that.

All things Romans 8 28 worked together for those who love God. Yes. And you were called according to his purpose here. What happened though.

He looks like Moses was forsaken.
He went back and was nursed by his own mother. That was God in him.

Moses made the mistake of trying to minister with that anointing and he killed an Egyptian because God was in him.
But that was not the ministerial anointing.

That was not God through Moses. When did that happen.
You go to Exodus chapter 3 I believe.
It talks about the burning bush.

Moses saw a bush that was burning while he was taking care of his father in law sheep. Why was he taking care of his father in law sheep because he was an exile from Egypt though he was brought up in power in the palace. When Pharaoh learned that he tried to kill that Egyptian.
Pharaoh wanted to kill him and Moses ran away and then he took care of his father in law sheep. He married Sibara. Do you understand. Yes.

So while he was wandering around he saw a bush and a bush burning is not an abnormal side but here though it burned he was not consumed.

So most said let me take a look and you understand the story in there. The commission is given to Moses just like the commission was given to us by Jesus.

Go to Exodus 3 10.
Come now therefore and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring my people the children of Israel out of Egypt. This is God commissioning Moses.

And then the rod of Moses became the rod of God that is God through Moses.

Before we read God in Moses you understand the difference. Yes. There are some books that I have read that cover this topic Moses systematically. There are more articulate. So I’m going to follow some of these books. But I’ve taught you this before.
Not today but later. Yes.
So so that you understand the principle behind this because we all want to be out of this religiosity into a relationship. Don’t be in Psalm 23 5 says you prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

Are they enemies in heaven.
You can say OK. All the enemies can watch what’s happening in heaven but here this is what I want to highlight. You are knowing my head with oil. My cup runs over.

Imagine this is a cup.
This is the big cup. Yes.
Because I have the double portion anointing. No.
What is in the cup is for you.

This is for me. Yes.
What runs over.
If Anu fills this cup and makes his run over I will call her clumsy.

Among many other things.
But if God.
See Anu’s mother and I was laughing. Anu’s mother is laughing. My mother is. But what I’m saying is that this is not human. But if God makes this cup run over.

That part which runs over is what you used to minister to others.

What is in the cup is for you.
What is running over is for others.

Many people Christians I’m talking about who fill with the Holy Spirit.
I’m ministering not just from the cup but from a dry cup.

And I tell them over and over again to pray.
One so that their cup is full and that they can minister from the overflow. What happens when the cup is full?

The cup is not full and they minister. You give that away. What is belonging to you. You will run dry.
When you are in an aircraft and there’s a depressory station.

The oxygen masks will fall and you instructed to put the oxygen mask on first before helping anybody else.
Why.
Why is that.
Because if you try to help somebody else without putting your oxygen mask on. You’ll have two dead people. To avoid that you put your mask on first and then you help your neighbor if they have difficulty.

Chances are that they won’t have any difficulty because it drops right in front of you.

Your cup.
What is in your cup is for you. What runs over is for others. So pray that your cup runs over every day.

That’s the abiding presence of God.
What’s in the cup versus the empowering presence of God. The overflow.
We need to know the difference and I’m going to be teaching about that.

Not just today but today I’ll start that. What is the abiding presence of God.
Don’t mistake that because if you’re born again that abiding presence is in all of us.

And some people say especially the cessationist.

Though they don’t say it in the same way they don’t believe in the empowering presence but they believe in the abiding presence because you can only be saved or born again with the Holy Spirit. Do you understand. Yes.

So a lot of confusion in that area. That is why first of all I must tread carefully and how I do that is by showing you the scriptures and making you understand. And if you have any questions ask me about that.

So let’s go to one John 2 27. This is the abiding presence or the abiding anointing. What is anointing in the Old Testament. It’s the oil smear smear. We understand that as the presence of God says but the anointing which you have received from him is the age capitalized. That means from God. Yes.

Abides in you and you don’t need anyone to teach you. What is that got to do with spiritual warfare. Absolutely nothing because that teaching is talking about sanctification.
And when you mistake that teaching for spiritual warfare you can do funny stuff into the doctrine of demons.

The anointing in you. Abides in you.

It teaches you how to be sanctified. You don’t need that anyone teaches you about that. You know because the Holy Spirit will tell you what is right and what is wrong.

But the same anointing teaches you concerning all things and is true and is not a lie. Jesus is this taught you you will abide in him. That will cause you to abide in Jesus walk with him. Do you understand because people misunderstand the scripture.

They take it no kind of ways and get into all kind of foolishness.

This is for you personally and he will teach you how to be sanctified. For example. Yes. This is the abiding anointing because the anointing that abides in you. Yes.

Go to Acts 1 8.

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you and you shall be witness to me in Jerusalem and all of Judea and Samaria to the ends of the earth.

This is the empowering anointing.

If you look and read the Gospel of John.

The abiding anointing was already given by Jesus when he breathed upon his disciples.

This is the empowering anointing.

Don’t try to minister without the empowering anointing and the empowering anointing is given to you. Based on what you have been called to do that to do but there is an anointing within you. That is why I say if the demon attacks you the anointing in you is enough.

But to cast out demons. Yes the anointing in you is enough but make sure a cup runs over. Where you have empowering anointing don’t try to minister without the empowering anointing because you will run dry and later you will throw the Bible away.

Because I’m seeing that happen throughout.

Especially in the worship field.

People who are leading other people to Christ who are singing songs and praising God suddenly find themselves out of faith.

Why? Why is that? Because there is a difference.

The abiding anointing works in us.
The empowering anointing works through us. Understand this clearly.

The abiding anointing is for walking with God. The empowering anointing is for working for God.

How can you work for God when you can’t even walk with God?

Yeah things happen here and there but you understand why things don’t work out the way you planned.

The abiding anointing is for revelation and manifestation.

The empowering anointing is for demonstration.

Do you understand?
With the abiding anointing the Lord manifests Himself in my spirit. He doesn’t manifest within me so others will know Him. He manifests Himself within me that I might know Him.

And if you don’t know Him what are you doing?

The first thing comes by that looks like trouble and you start sulking and going the other way.

Don’t tell me you know Him.

Here’s the thing.

You have anointing within you. You are filled with the Holy Spirit.

You need to make Him rise up.

When the doorbell rings who answers the door? When trouble comes what you deal with?

Is it the Word of God or is it the lie of the devil?
Am I clear? Yes.

The empowering anointing is for demonstration that others might know Him.

Do you understand? There is a difference.
This speaks of a difference in God’s presence in our life and God’s power to minister to others.

And if you don’t know this difference you will be in trouble.

Understand this is applicable and available to you and to me.
Available to our calling.

I made this prayer that only those who are willing or who have paid the price to walk worthy of their calling only let them come to me, Lord.

Not people who are just filled with the Holy Spirit. I want to release people into their calling. Now, does this make sense to you? Understand?

God’s presence in our life should never be misinterpreted as God’s power to minister to others.

Know your battles.

For that you have to know the general. His name is Jesus.

When you don’t do what he tells you, I have learned that this leads to grievous errors from my own life.

So you understand,
first of all, you are not a stranger to this anointing. This is for you. But there is a difference between the anointing in you and that abides you and the anointing that works from you through you. Yes, and both are yours. But you need to know and the truth that you know will set you free. What does it say that in John 8 32?
Do you understand? Yes.
Is that clear?
Yes. So repeat after me in case you find yourself away from God and you want to renew your walk with God.

Just repeat after me. Dear God,
I repent of my sins.

And for my ways,
apart from you,
I put my trust in Jesus Christ as Lord,
the master over my life,
my savior.

Forgive my sins and grant me your gift of everlasting life.

Thank you for being my father in heaven.
Fill me with your Holy Spirit.

Give me the ability to overcome and preach the gospel in Jesus name.

I pray.
Amen. Amen. Let’s continue worshiping.
Hallelujah.
